About 87% of SMEs are in the services sector, and this sector is expected
to generate an increase in its contribution to GDP over the next decade .
Example: The Tourism sub-sector has seen an increase in foreign exchange
earnings from RM17.3 billion in 2000 to RM46.1 billion in 2007. The Government has identified the services sector as areas of focus to be
promoted for SMEs as an important source of earnings.
Bank Negara Malaysia : Development Finance and Enterprise Department The Unit aims to assist viable SMEs in obtaining financing. While the banking system is the main provider of funds to the SMEs, other
alternative sources of financing for SMEs include the development financial
institutions and the various special funds established by the Government.
